This retainer, also known as a retaining ring or split ring, is a genuine OEM replacement part used in cordless drills. It is responsible for securing the spindle within the clutch housing so that it remains stable during use and ensuring the components such as gears and bearings do not slide off the spindle. Over time the retainer may crack, corrode, or fall off, leading to wobbly parts and excessive vibration. Ensure the drill is off before beginning the replacement. Remove the chuck, and clutch housing. Use a set of pliers to remove the retainer from its groove. Clean the mounting surface and place the new ring in the groove on the spindle. Reassemble the drill components in reverse order.
