This grease seal, also known as an oil seal or a shaft seal, in your log splitter or chipper shredder serves as a protective barrier. It keeps lubrication inside the bearings and stops dirt from entering them. It is commonly located in the wheel hubs or axle assemblies of your machine. A broken grease seal leads to contaminated bearings. Your machine will then undertake more friction and can overheat, reducing its performance. You will need a seal puller or a flathead screwdriver to pry a grease seal out of your machine. When installing the new grease seal, apply a thin layer of lubricant to its inner surface before pressing it into its housing.
