plastic cam on hinge cracked
Supported the door on the bottom them removed the 3 screws holding hinge to door. Installed new hinge assembly. Had a litle trouble installng screw in bottom of door due to alignment issues with cam & metal piece. It finally went in when I loosened 2nd screw in bottom of door.
First i removed two screws that holds the ice maker in, unplug the plug to the ice maker. I was able to remove the old one. Place the new one in screwed in the two screws and pluged in the plug and in just a little while i had ice again. I am a women, if i can do it any one can. I had a repair man tell me it was going to be $250.00 dollars to replace it. I got on line ordered the ice maker and had it in 4 days. Very fast shipping and easy to install. Ice hopper had no ice in it. But water in door worked and if I added ice to hopper, it would dispense in door. I added water to ice maker but no ice was made. Replaced ice maker and all it required was to unplug harness and remove two screws with nut driver. Easy!
If a 74 year old guy can install an ice-maker in a 20 + year old fridge in 20, or so, minutes it must have had good pictures and BIG PRINT. Working quite well at this time!
Remove old ice maker (AFTER REMOVING THE BIG ICE TRAY) by disengaging two philips head screws but don't totally unscrew them. You must then totaly unscrew the bottom screw below the top two screws. Unplug the 5 head connection. (electricity)
Use adapter for the electrcity, etc from the box, (five head connection) Use the old plastic hose to hit the new cup. TIGHTEN TOP SREWS. LEVEL BY EYE. Turn the system on. Prime with some fresh water.
PS make sure that the light is on (green) and you will be in ice city. Be careful not to disengage the elcectic head when replacing the big ice tray.
The ice maker needed replacing for a couple of years. Then, a couple of weeks ago, the water supply stopped serving both the ice maker, and the drink dispenser.
I ordered both a new replacement ice maker, and a new solenoid/pump. They were delivered to my house within one day and I had them installed in a matter of an hour. I had to use the power extension cord supplied with the ice maker.
The new "quick connect" hose couplings on the new pump are great.
I removed the screws that held the unit in place, and also the screws that held a plate that covered where the unit plugs in. I unplugged the unit, and removed it. Put the new one in, reversing the steps. Turned the new unit on, and had ice in 45 minutes! Summer is coming, I need my ice maker! This is the second unit I have replaced on this refrigerator, the first one was not releasing the cubes. This second one was a different style than the first, but same install process.
Removed Ice Maker (2-Bolts) Removed Ice Tray Screw Motor (to get to Ice Maker Plug- 4 small screws) Installed new Ice Maker and reinstalled Ice Maker Screw Motor Extreamly easy
Pulled the two wires out from the access hole in the lower part of the refrigerator. Put them in the spade connectors on the new switch, and pushed the switch into place.
Emptied the refrigerator door so it was easier to take off. Used a screwdriver to remove the screw on the top hinge. Lifted door off bottom hinge. Laid the door down so I could take the bottom hinge off. Removed worn out parts and placed the new one on. Slipped door back on hinge, made sure it would close properly and was lined up with freeze door. Put top hinge back in place. Done!! Now door finally shuts on its own again!!! EASY!!!
