I removed the agitator top cap first. I reached inside and removed plastic cap. I then removed the 7/16 bolt inside the agitator and lifted it out of the machine. I put my foot on the bottom part of the agitator and pulled the top part off. I removed the plastic bushing in the bottom part and then removed the plastic bushing with the dog ears and the bolt. I used some appliance grease on the bushing on the bottom part and slid the top part of the agitator back in place and replaced the 7/16 bolt. It worked like a charm. My wife says I'm her hero. Thanks for making it so easy.
The upper agitator would not engage (would spin freely in both directions)
I simply watched the brief video supplied on both the page as well as my emailed receipt and performed the steps as directed. There were no deviations required... it was exactly how the video described it. Honestly, I expected a more lengthy and complicated repair!
Removed agitator replaced dogs with new ones along with rest of supplied materials that came with part. Very easy with video and instructions supplied.
Upper agitator quit working due to broken cam dogs
Used Thrush Water Kit 285587 to replace cam dogs; easy repair, no problems other than the recommended grease for the thrust washer was not supplied in kit; took me longer to find grease (finally used marine ball bearing grease because I had some) than it did to replace cam dogs. Suggest supplying grease in small packet along with kit. Otherwise, parts shipped quickly, good directions supplied with kit, easy and cheap repair.
The top portion of my washing machine's agitator wasn't turning.
Being a 69-year-old retiree on a fixed income, and having successfully replaced the water shut-off valve solenoid assembly on my automatic dishwasher some months ago, it was nonetheless with some apprehensiveness that I bravely elected to also attempt the repair of my washing machine's paralyzed agitator, instead of enlisting the expensive services of an appliance repair technician. After receiving the agitator top ratchet assembly repair parts from PartSelect, I opened the package only to find that my apprehensions regarding difficulty of installation had been unwarranted. The rudimentary instructions provided with the repair parts were easily understood, and I found them to be quite sufficient for my occasional reference during the repair process. Needle nose pliers, a 3/8" drive ratchet, extension and 7/16" socket were all that were required for me to successfully replace the agitator's old worn-out ratchet pawl assembly with the new one, giving my older model Whirlpool machine a new lease on life, my clothes a cleaner wash, and my ego a considerable boost. The repair parts arrived within only a couple of days of my having ordered them, and were very reasonably priced. I would recommend this site to any do-it-yourselfer in need of quality, bargain-priced appliance repair parts, and will most assuredly be a return customer, should I find myself in need of similar repair parts in the future. Sincerely, Steve
Replaced hinge switch. Still no spin cycle. Noticed hinge bearing cracked & if hinge forced into switch, spin activated. Ordered new hinge bearings.Spin cycle still didn't engage. On further examination, observed that hinge was bent. Straightened hinge & worked like a charm. Didn't really need new switch or bearings. NOTE : Avoid having washer door bang shut.Took longer than expected, but each procedure was simple.
Took sealing caps off agitator to access holding screw & followed instructions included with the repair kit to replace agitator unit. Ordered the part on Friday morning and had the part by early Monday morning. Impressed with the service........Thanks
Only had to replace the dogs, the remainder of the kit did not fit my washer. It now works like a dream, maybe better than before and since I did it myself I am very proud to have made the repair and did not require a $80+ service call. I pulled off the softener dispenser, used an 11/16" socket, removed the agitator, set it on the floor stood on it and pulled off the top of the agitator, removed the device that holds the dogs, put the new ones in and reassembled. It was super easy!
The small plastic pieces that activate the agitator were worn down. Bought the 12$ kit intead of 3$ kit, came w an extra piece that keeps the dogs in place. Put it back the way I found it. Wife is psyched we didn't have to buy a new washer and I look like a rock star. ..
Based on the trouble shooting page the website, I was able to confirm that I needed the $11 agitator repair kit. Small flat tip screwdriver and 7/16th socket with long extension is all that is needed. Once removed I could see all the dogs were broken, allowing the agitator to spin in either direction. Repair was exactly as described on a video I found while researching. Which is also the same as described on this website's page, but I like to see things!I used plumbers grease (silicon) for the o-ring on the cap and put back in order. 30 minutes and it's fixed!
