dryer was making thumping noise (like when a pair of sneaker is being dried)
Started with removal of rear inspection plate on rear of drier,rotated drier drum by hand to look for any visible problems. Found that drive belt with age had lost sections of teeth and every time the bad sections would go past motor they would "thump". 1. Removed belt from tensioner. Done simply by moving tensioner to unload belt. 2. Slipped belt off motor drive and moved belt to front of drum. 3. Opened drier door and removed 4 screws from under the lid or top of drier ,raised lid for access to belt once belt had been slid to front of drum. 4. (steps 4 and 5 are the hardest parts)Worked drive belt between drum and felt insulators keep in mind there are many stamped steel pieces and sharp edges can be present. 5. Removed belt by feeding a small section past felt and drum and worked rest out from frt. top of drier. 6. Installed new belt in reverse order as removal. This was done without aid of instruction manual and by someone having major back surgery 4 months earlier. No idea how much this saved me but the price of the belt and time and effort involved made it woth my while I'm sure.
open the front of the dryer, open the back access panel, remove the old belt fragment, pull front cover away from bushing surface at the front of drum, drape new belt around the face of drum, match location visible as the track of old belt, reroute belt at the motor and install tensioner in the proper way, reattach front cover, install back panel, done.
the plastic stem fractured off the starter so the starter could not be turned on
Removed the back off the control panel. unclipped and unscrewed the starter and replaced with the new starter, replaced the back of the control panel. Very easy and the part was mailed and arrived the very next day! Thank you
something was sent on top of dryer, fell and snapped knob of at the neck of it.
unscrewed top cover,disconnected wires,took out part ,set in new part, put wires back on and closed up top with cover. I have had to replace other parts to my washer and dryer and have been very pleased with the parts fitting and also the speedy delivery, always had them between 2-3 days.
There were multiple holes in the lint filter screen.
There were no tools required. I simply pulled out the old filter, compared it to the new filter, for size and shape. Then simply placed the new lint filter in place of the old one.
Followed an online website, removed the top, front, two rear access panels, disassembled the spring clip from the rear of the drum, took the belt off of the motor, removed the drum, took the rear bearing support out, replaced the bearing and reassembled the dryer.
First I checked on-line "how to change a dryer belt" and followed the instructions. Remove front panel and slide belt over drum, in the back, put belt around pulley and hand trun the drum. on-line instructions had pictures to ensure proper install. It was easy.
First I removed the drum as described in many other comments. Took me about 10 minutes, pretty easy. Replaced the part which was easy and could be figured out just by seeing how you took the original part off. The hard part was aligning the drum, drum washer, and metal plate back into the drum bearing. I tried over 2 hours to do this and because it rotates and it's almost impossible to line up all the holes, I decided to do it another way.
I took apart the drum bearing from the back panel and then outside of the dryer walls I aligned the drum, washer, metal plate and drum bearing. I screwed them all in together and then, went into the frame and reconnected it at the back w/ the horseshoe looking washer. It worked perfectly and I was frustrated that it took me so long to figure out a different way to do it.
I have to say because of the installation it was a little tough than anticipated but was very happy with the end result (no squeaking) and money savings. Definitely worth giving it a try if you're patient.
Just put it in place. The hardest part was to choose the model number closest to the one I have (since it wasn't listed). PartSelect.com showed a list of similar models and I was able to choose from that. Luckily I got the right one (wrong color, but it fit!).
The drive belt on the trusty GE dryer, bought used from a GI in Germany about 40 years ago and donated to our relatives when we returned to the States finally broke and I airmailed them a new one.
The repair was simple with my mechanic relative handling the tools. Total time about 25 minutes.
Previous repairs to the venerable machine with parts obtained freom Part Select and shipped to Germany: new drive motor and drum bearings.
It was simple to get drum out. I took all screws holding top and door out with out problems, then released the drive belt. It took some wiggling to get the drum out. I then was able to get at the rear elements. Taking the wires off the thermostat came off with a little persuasion. Removing shaft from drum took some stretching as I was doing the work by myself. I would suggest that a helper be used for the removal and replacement of the shaft. Reassembly was easy. Just reverse of the above.
The screen had holes in it and was leaking lint into exhaust pipe.
Just removed old tray and installed new tray.
I was completely surprised that in less than 24 hours the new part was at my door! This is the kind of service every company should strive to supply to the customer,and the delivery fee was regular 3-5 day delivery. A job well done !!!!
Easy to do - would have been easier if I had the correct tools the first time round - needed my socket wrench set and a flashlight to see inside to undo the switch itself. Be careful if you have to pull the knob off again - the mount bracket is flimsy and bends too easily - I had to pull the back off again to put the knob on - this time I taped in place with duct tape
unplugged dryer,removed air duct,,remove( top of dryer) by removing the two back screws.... removed two screws under (fornt top lid),laid top to the side. ...Now remove ( front of dryer) remove,two screws near the( top on the inside)...lean dryer back, and remove outsidescrews at the bottom)..the front should come off. ..located small square opening in the back of the dryer release clamp from drum ,...put belt around drum... put drum and dryer back together...(relace any electrical wires removed if any..remove (rear bottom plug panel)..you can now see the lower inside of dryer....make sure belt is level on drum by rotating...place belt on lower pully,... lift tension(spring pully) on to belt.. replace cover..
