Door had to be pushed to close
The magnetic door strip will hold the door in place if the door shelves are unloaded.I removed the bottom hinge with the socket set and installed the new hinge.
HInge Cam Riser next to lower door hinge broke and door would not close
The refrigerator door would now close and notice broken plastic on the floor. It is a 1990 or so GE fridge. To repair - ordered the Cam Riser (the plastic piece that broke and the matching lower door bracket.
Took off the lower hinge with a socket wrench. removed the door. Replace the old Cam Riser with the new one. Slid the door onto the upper guide then fastened the new hinge with the socket wrench.
Removed guards and covers, (2 snap connections, 3 phillips head screws) Removed two 5/16" screws, removed door, removed cam from bottom of door, installed new items.
Being as the part is plastic it has a limited life span. But the repair is very easy and anyone can do it. I just proped the door with 2x6's and 1x2's and bolted it in. If you get confused just look at the freezer side to see how it goes, they are the same. It's four bolts and some shims that need to go in the same locations. I'm real happy that there is an online location to get these parts as there is not anywhere to get them where I live.
After reading other posted comments,I ordered a new hinge assembly set ps290199. My helper and I removed the door and laid it on the kitchen table. While he replaced the hinge on the refigator,I replaced the cam on the door bottom. We re-hung the door and completed the job in 15 minutes with the door closing like it did when new.
I read the details and bought the pair, as directed from other bloggers. I got the hinge piece, followed others advice and had it all done in not time! Saved a lot of money and will use this website again!
Hinge assembly spacer at bottom hinge failed breaking up in small pieces
Followed other messages to complete fix. Simple overall.
Please note that if you buy the hinge assembly, you get spacer parts that mate. If you don't you have to hack-saw the rivot off the old hinge assembly to do your repair. Hinge assembly cost more but less work.
Don't even need to empty the shelves in the door. Just prop the door up with a block of wood from the floor to the bottom of the door. Lay on the floor and replace the parts.
The door was acting up for a long time. I wish I had researched and repaired the problem a long time ago. Now it works great!
Removed two screws from the top hinge, two from the bottom - replace and put back together. It took longer to remove the food from the door than it did to replace it. THANKS
Refrigerator door would not close. Cam washer was laying on the floor in many pieces.
Removed the refrigerator door. Replaced the cam riser bushing on the bottom of the door. I then removed the hinge bracket on the bottom of the refrigerator after removing the grill (oh yuk, what a mess under the refrigerator). I put the new bracket on and replaced the door. All is working well again. Thanks for the hints and the parts.
I removed the taped on bottle bar, attached the end cap on the right side of the bottle bar and reinserted the end cap tabs into the refrigerator door receptacle. The refrigerator is 25 years old and I was surprised to find the part available. Thank you, PART SELECT.com
