Keep searches simple. Use keywords, e.g. "leaking", "pump", "broken" or "fit".
Large burner would not heat
I ordered the wrong part to start with. (READ CAREFULLY!) I reordered the correct part and it was simple. I unpluged the old element, plugged in the new one replaced the drip pan and trim ring and we were back cooking. Service was fast, lady I spoke with on the phone to exchange parts was knowegable and nice. Great people to deal with.
Control on one burner would heat on high only, not lower heat level
Bought new version of control element (parts no longer available for the old one) and luckily had a sheet with the oven describing how to disassemble the cook top from the range to get to the old control. After removing the top and installing the new control element, followed the instructions backwards and reassembled the range. Total job took about 4 hours. A real serviceman could probably have done it in 2 Hrs.
The old single heating element support clips came loose over time.
I ordered the replacement clips from this site and they arrived in a timely manner. The clips were perfect, but due to the age of the oven, the holes had elongated and the new clips kept falling out also. I modified the clips by widening the tips with a pair of pliers. They are holding just fine. I don't think the older clips could've withstood the modification.
This burner element is the large element of a 2 element modual. After removing the modual, there was 6 small metal screws to open the modual to expose the burner elements. After the burner element were exposed there are 2 wires that had to be disconected with a screw driver. Once the wires are disconnecter the burner element is easy removed by sliding the old element out and sliding the new element in. Just reconect the wires to the new element and put the cover back on with the 6 metal screws. It took about 30 minutes to complete the task, taking time to clean all the insides to bring it back to new condition. Very very easy job.
Unscrewed the heating element from the inside back of the oven and removed the housing cover from the back of the stove to access the terminals. (The unit had arked and fused the terminal to the connector.) Installed the new unit and replaced the housing cover on the back and screwed the unit into the back of the oven. Works like a charm.
Oven door hinge roller deteriorated, oven door hard to open.
Open and slide door upward off of hinges. Removed bottom drawer to access hinge spring. Detached spring, noting proper hole in hinge for reinstallation. Removed three screws holding hinge and removed hinge. Compared new part to old...exact match. Inserted hinge, and reinstalled the three screws. Reattached spring in hinge hole. Slid door back down onto hinges. Done in four minutes flat!
Removed old hinges and installed new hinges. Hardest part was determining that worn hinges were the cause of problem, then ordering replacements. GE website hinge on exploded view did not look like hinges I removed.Thanks to Google I got on to PartSelect.com website where excellent pictures of hinges and one-inch grid confirmed they sold exactly what I wanted for my 13-year old range, the model number of which was not even on the GE website.
Followed the video directions on your website - GREAT INFORMATION. Everything went very smoothly It took me longer to find my work light (after turning off the electric to the oven) out in the garage than it did to complete the repair!! SUPER PLEASED - WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANY DIY ADVENTURER!!
Alls well that ends well. General Electric changed the configuration of our Light bulb socket on our 1996 oven. It did not have a flange with two screws as the original. The new one, you will just connect it and twist it into place. It worked and we are very happy. Such wonderful people to deal with at this site. Our sincere thanks, Richard and Shirley
A tenant left the Drip Bowls in an uncleanable state. I could not find a suitable replacement..
Most trainable people can pull out the heating elements and replace the Drip Bowls. The great thing about the ordered drip bowls was that they FIT! Most drip bowls sold as easy replacements for GE or Hotpoint appliances do not fit and wobble the heating element or drip bowls. If not fitting correctly, the tenant usually destroys the heating element and the drip bowl.
The right side hinge roller broke making the door balky
Lifted the door off the hinges, unhooked the spring from each hinge, unscrewed 3 Phillips head screws from the face plate of each hinge and removed the hinge assemblies . Hinges went in the way they came out; easy shmeasy. Took less than 15 minutes and the door is like new.
