Baking element burned out
The element went out on a Wednesday. We ordered the part the next day. We received it the following Tuesday (Mon. was a holiday). My 16 yr. old son replaced the part within 15 minutes. It was a piece of cake-actually it was a pizza!! First and foremost we turned off the breaker, a very important thing to remember!! Then he removed the two screws that hold the element in place. He then pulled the element out about 3 inches and disconnected the two wires...and reconnected the new ones and put screws back in. Voila!! Ours was stillll under warranty, but we would have had to pay the service call and labor costs. Our do it yourself was much cheaper and faster!!
First I gave my roommate (an engineer) a screwdriver to remove the two screws that held the element in place. Then before I could hit the switch for the circuit breaker, he nearly fried himself by trying to take out the element! He gave up helping me after that.
Then I turned off the circuit, pulled the oven out and unplugged it, removed the racks from the oven, removed the two screws that hold in the element, and lifted up each side of the element and pulled each piece out. Unfortunately, they were a little stuck in back.
So I pulled out the oven, unscrewed the 6 or 8 screws that held up the back panel, and pulled the back panel off. I disconnected the two wires clipped to the element and pulled the old element out by lifting up and pulling them out. I then put in the new bake element, clipped the wires back on, put the oven's back panel on and screwed it in place, and then screwed the bake element back in with those two screws. Easy - a
The problem I ran into Was; Having the right socket size for doing the project. After taking care of that problem it was fairly easily to disconnect the element and reconnect the new one. It's pretty self explanitory.
My husband removed the screws and took out the heat element and when we received the new heat element in 3 days (thank God!) My husband put the new part in the oven and replaced the screws!! Total repair time was about 5 mins!!!
I looked up the model number of the Tappan oven on the net, found the part on the PartSelect site, ordered it and it arrived within a few days. The disassembly should have required nothing more than a Phillips head screw driver, unfortunately one of the screws was completely frozen and I managed to strip the Phillips head socket.
The screw was in a very awkward position so I first tried using grip pliers on the edge of the screw - this failed, I then tried grinding a flat spot on either side of the screw circumference and using the flats for gripping - it worked but the screw wouldn't move. Finally, I took a hacksaw blade and cut a slot in the head of the screw. I widened the slot using miniature files and finally made the slot wide enough for a large slot blade screwdriver - this worked. After removing that one screw and maneuvering the broken hinge out of the access hole on the stove front (the break in the hinge was such that this took awhile) the rest of the repair went very quickly.
The oven door was such that I could not see all of the hinge and when the part arrived from PartSelect I thought it was the wrong part. I called your parts return number to ask some questions. The lady who took my call was extremely helpful and we first discussed the part ID, then she showed me how to find a picture of the actual part on your site. After looking at the picture and the diagram I suddenly realized the part was correct - it was just that I thought it was supposed to be installed in a different manner. I'm sorry I didn't remember to get her name because she certainly should be commended for he patience and her assistance. Thanks Again.
Had to remove the old element and had problems with the element shorted on the quick disconnect. After having my son unplug the appliance and cutting the quick connect off. My son then installed a new quick disconnect and the bake element.
While baking cookies I looked in the oven only to find the bake element was glowing white on the curve of the element, then a second spot started to burn. The element was fried.
The repair took less time than finding the model number. After unplugging the range and allowing it to cool I disconnected the element (2 screws), went online and found Part Select ordered the element and saved $16.00 dollars over the least expensive local shop, I was amazed at how fast the element arrived, I believe it was 4 days from order to my door. I went to my local hardware store for some new connectors for the wire, put them on and plugged in the element fastened down the two screws and went back to baking cookies. The element was well and safely packed and came in perfect condition. It works like a charm. Thank You
My husband had recently moved out of our house so I was very nervous about trying this repair myself but it was actually very easy!!I ordered the part on Monday, it arrived on Wednesday and Wednesday night I was baking dinner in the oven!!
ordered new heating element, arrived promptly as expected, compared new heating element to old one and it matched in size only diameter a little different, removed two sheet metal screws holding element in place and pulled out element to expose conductors and removed them with screwdriver. Installed conductors on new heating element slid into holes and installed screws, turned power back on(first step is to turn off power) turned on oven to preheat and she worked like a new one. Just followed the same instructions that the other people did when replacing this element. Was very easy to replace . Just turned off the power , rwemoved the two nuts , pulled the wires out about 3 inches and unpluged old one and pluged in the new one, replaced the nuts and volia ,DONE
using a nut driver I removed to two screws that were holding the element in place. Then simply disconnected each wire. Removed the old element and plug the new wires onto the new element. Reinstalled the two screws and everything works fine
First I removed the two screws that hold the element in place. I then pulled the element out about 3 inches and disconnected the two wires. connected the new element, reassembled and SHAZAM. It worked. I am not good with electrical circuit testing etc. even though I know it must be easy so after reading many stories here, I decided to start by replacing just the element and see if I got lucky. I did. No need to call expensive repairman.
My baking element went out in my over, it started on fire.
Very quick and easy fix. Used a nut driver to unscrew the bolts. Pulled it out and disconnected the two wires. I was very happy with the wonderful service we received from Partselect.com. I ordered the part Sunday evening and the part was here Tuesday by noon. I payed regular shipping charges. What a pleasant surprise!
Take out 2 screws disconnect the wires one on each side removed element recoonnected the wires put the 2 screws back in . Also I did flip breaker off while working. When I turned the oven on I noticed it gets bright red almost instantly. I dont remember my old getting red at all. this tells me it probably needed changing a lot earlier. I ordered the part sunday nite it arrived wednesday at lunch.I will definetly use this co again.
