Microwave wouldn't turn on/no power
Steps were straight forward. Remove the trim between the microwave and the cabinet. Disconnect the microwave from the cabinet Unplug the microwave Remove the microwave from the cabinet Remove the screws in the back of the microwave in order to remove the cover Remove the microwave cabinet cover Using nee
... Read moredle nose pliers, disconnect wire from the fuse (on top of the microwave) Remove the one screw holding the fuse down (Phillips head) Replace the fuse Reconnect the wires
For this repair, the fuse actually melted the connector for one of the wires. As such, the wire needed to be replaced and it was part of the microwave's wiring harness, so I replaced the entire harness. To do so,
Starting at the one top end of the harness, replace the individual connections by disconnecting the original wire connection and putting on the new connection one at a time, making sure to verify that the wire colors match for each connection. Go sequentially The hardest connection to do is the bottommost (last connection) that connects on the bottom middle of the microwave. To access the connection, you need to open the access panel on the bottom of the microwave (It is stamped and tin snips are needed to cut the tabs to free up 3 sides - the 4th one acts as the hinge).
After the last connection is made, plug the microwave in and test it to make sure its working. Once test is complete: Reattach the cover Put the microwave back into the cabinet; plug it in Reconnect the frame Reattach the cabinet trim

This microwave is approx two years old. Just over a year ago, while still under warranty the control board was replaced. The issue was the unit would just shut down, but you could get it working again by opening and shutting the door several times. About 6 months ago it started to have the same issue, i removed the cover and started just moving around the wires, with power, and discovered that the Flame sensor terminal was loose on the body of the sensor. I was able to get the terminal and the connector connected better by using plastic ties and it's been working the last 6 months. Today it started have the same issue, so again removed the cover and discovered the Flame sensor and connectors melted together. My question, should i replace the main harness with the sensor or just the sensor? The harness looks ok except for the sensor connectors, which i can replace. Is there any logical reason that the Flame sensor would just melt like this? Any help would be appreciated. Dave

Hello David, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, we don't know exactly why the flame sensor would melt like that. That would be something GE could provide information on. We would recommend speaking with them directly for that information. If the connectors are fine or can be fixed you shouldn't have to replace the wire harness as well. However, where you have been having such an issue with the flame sensor and harness we would probably recommend replacing the sensor and harness. I hope this helps!

Hi, my microwave timer starts and the light turns on, but the microwave does not heat and the turntable doesn't spin. I think this means the harness main (part 1640) should be replaced. Does this sound correct?

Hello Trevor, thank you for contacting us. The most common part for this issue would be the door switches. If they are faulty the magnetron will not produce any heat for safety reasons. You can test these switches with a multi-meter to determine which switch is at fault. Hope this helps!
