Part 16 -- coupler -- on my microwave looks like it has a piece missing from its rim. When we put the round glass plate (or anything heavy) on it, the coupler goes up and down a little as it goes around with the plate and the machine makes a grinding sound. When we remove this heavy plate and replace it with a light plastic plate, the coupler does not go up and down and does not make the grinding sound. The circular tobe with three wheels that supports the plate is in perfect condition. The weight of the plate causes the grinding sound, but of course, the real cause is something else. Do i need a new coupler? Do i need to open up the machine to find the real cause or can you diagnose the problem from the above information?
For model number JEM31SF001
Hello Dale, thank you for your question. I would recommend replacing the coupler and the turntable motor. It sounds like the heaviness of the glass plate and the missing piece from the coupler are affecting the motor from turning properly. I hope this helps!
