My washer often stays on the wash cycle, and won’t leave that cycle unless i physically turn it. Other times it may work perfect

Dials turns to end of cycle but at end washer lets in water again before turning off. Turning dial to beginning of wash cycle again, machine cycle starts in different position instead of at start of wash cycle.

The dryer knob on the left side is broken. I bought a replacement but it does not fit onto the existing holder. The knob I bought has a D-shaped" insert, but the holder is more square / circle
