This chopper assembly, or dishwasher drain food chopper, chops food particles into small pieces to prevent the dishwasher pump from clogging. If your dishwasher is making grinding, rattling, or humming noises, replacing this part may solve the issue. Other symptoms include not draining, low water pressure, chopper not working, or the dishes not being cleaned. The tools needed for this repair project are a #15 torque spit, #20 torque spit, small flat blade screwdriver, and needle nose pliers. Make sure to unplug your dishwasher from the power source before beginning installation. Refer to the manual provided by the manufacturer for further instructions.

Quick Easy Repair
Replacing this part saved a large service call bill. Easy to swap out. The hardest part of the whole job was getting motivated to start troubleshooting the problem. Oh, and finding my Torx screwdriver set. Do it. Fix it. Take the money you saved by doing it yourself and take your partner out to dinner.

Clogged/worn chopper
Disassembled the dishwasher - removed bottom spray arm, took out screws to remove filter, and unscrewed and used a flat screwdriver to remove the front panel over the filter assembly. Took out old chopper, cleaned gunk out of the exposed dishwasher guts and all parts, and put in new chopper by using a small wrench to hold the spring-loade
... Read mored chopper away from the screen, sliding the screen into place, and removing the wrench. Put back all dishwasher parts and screws.

Dishes on top rack were'nt getting cleaned
I decided to troubleshoot this problem before spending hundreds on a service call or even more for a new machine. The internet and this site was helpful for "how to". Three different screwdriver heads were needed for disassembly (unfortunately, I only had two of the heads and needed to run out to buy a T-15 Torx). Upon exposing the gut
... Read mores of the machine, I discovered that the axle on the food chopper was broken. Reassembly with the new part was quick and easy. It went in much easier than the old crusty one came out. Works great now! Not bad for a 60 year old grandma, right?

The detergent door was not opening during the cycle, so i replaced the whole detergent dispensing unit. The detergent door still does not open. Could it be an electrical issue? If not, any idea what else would cause this?
For model number IUD9750WS3
Hello Cindy, thank you for contacting us. If the detergent door is not opening you would need to replace the detergent dispenser, the part number is PS11750655. Good luck with the repair!
I ordered a circulation pump and motor assembly. Does a new impeller come with my order. Thanks, don $104
For model number GU1500XTLS2
Hi Donald,
Thank you for your inquiry. If you ordered the circulation pump and motor assembly, part number PS11757388, then it does include the impeller. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The washer starts making a loud sound only heard through the vent on the upper left of the door. It sounds like something (possibly like a plastic knife, but i don't think one could get through the grate under the sprayer arm) hitting the pump impeller. I drained all the water that i could siphon, restarted the wash cycle (without soap) and it ran quietly for a few seconds and it sounded off again at the same period and loudness. Drained it and got the same result. I looked through the openings in the round plastic cover underneath the sprayer arms and couldn't see anything. I watched the video about changing out the food chopper and feel comfortable doing that unless you all can suggest another fix? However, since the pump and chopper work under water i don't see how it sounds so clear and loud through the vent in the door? Is there something in the door that would cause that sound (like sticking a smart stick in the front of a small fan getting that fluttering noise! Or, playing cards in the spokes of a bicycle, back in the day!) appreciate your thoughts, dick.
For model number Kitchenaid KUDSO1FLSS2
Hello Dick, thank you for your question. If the sound is coming from around the top left corner of the door where the vent is, it could be something in that venting area that is causing it. I would recommend removing the inner door panel and checking around the circular vent that is in that top left corner. There is a round gasket that goes around that vent that might have started to peel away and is causing the fluttering noise. If the vent area is in good condition i would recommend changing out the food chopper assembly to see if that fixes the issue. I hope this helps!

The small plastic tab holding the soap door shut is worn off. Can this door be easily replaced or must i get the whole inner cover? Considered adding my own plastic tab or epoxy to build it back out!
For model number GU1500XTLQ2 dishwasher
Hi Dallas,
Thank you for your question. If the tab on the detergent and rinse aid dispenser is worn out, you will need to replace the dispenser. The part number listed under your model number for the detergent dispenser is PS11746408. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Is there not a filter on this model to clean? Is there only a food chopper?!
For model number Whirlpool Dishwasher GU1500XTLQ2
Hello Dallas, thank you for your question. This appliance is equipped with a filter. The part number is Accumulator and Filter PartSelect Number: PS897295. This part is essential in your dishes getting clean during the wash cycle. If there is any debris or a tear in the filter, it can cause extra buildup and, therefore, causing dirty dishes. I hope this helps!
