I bought a drain solenoid for my Maytag dishwasher. It comes shipped with a rubber band around the solenoid and plunger, supposedly to keep the plunger from falling out during shipping. Is that rubber band supposed to be installed around the solenoid in a running machine? The seller says it is but my local appliance guy says in 25 years he's never seen a solenoid need a rubber band to hold the plunger in he says im being bs'd, which is it? Thank you
For model number PDB2430AWE
Hi Mike, thank you for your question. That is correct that the rubber band is actually there to keep the plunger from falling out during shipping. You do not need that piece when installing the solenoid, so you can remove that piece when you are ready to install the part. Your local appliance guy was definitely correct in this case. The only thing I could mention is be careful not to over stretch the spring when installing the part because that could potentially cause issues with the wash and draining. I hope that helps! Good luck with your repair.
