What is the expected or acceptable amount of resistance when testing the heating element to know the element is working?
For model number YMED5620TQ0
Hello Laurie, thank you for your question. To test the element you will want to perform a continuity test. This will determine if a continuous electrical path throughout the element wire. To be safe, turn off the breaker and unplug the dryer from the receptacle. Remove the element. If you use an analog meter set the meter to the lowest ohms of resistance. Touch the probes together and adjust the needle until its calibrated at 0. If you're using a digital meter also set the dial to the lowest ohms of resistance. TO test for continuity take the probe from the multimeter to one of the terminals, then touch the second probe to the other terminal. IF the element has continuity it should read from 0 to 50 ohms. If there is no reading on the multimeter or very little change then there is no continuity and you would have to replace the element. I hope this helps.
First tried heating element and thermal fuse with no luck. Ordered thermal cutoff and fixed problem. Had I used an ohm meter first I would have determined problem before having ordered heating element and fuse, as both had resistance. I wast just lazy and ordered the took the most common failed components first before taking dryer back
