The nightmare was that this microwave is installed under the cabinet....in order to get to the light bulb I had to pull out my stove then squeeze into the space between the stove and counter....my old microwave light bult was much easier to change.....Shame on Whirlpool for making this so difficult.....must be a better way to cover the light bulb so that we do not need a screwdriver to remove the door to get to the light bulb
I went online and found the manual for this appliance and used the instructions, which were very helpful. The filters just pop out and the new ones fit right in. No tools were needed. For the vent grill, it was necessary to move the metal tabs back and forth a few times manually before they were properly placed in order to take the two screws, which hold the grill in place. I then loosely tightened the screws (so as not to crack the plastic grill)with a Phillips Head screwdriver. When my husband got up from his nap he was pleased to see the job completed without his help.:)
this problem started two months ago when my micro quit heating up, after all the research most agreed it was the magnetron. taking the micowave apart is not to difficult just make sure you bag all the screws accordingly. the high voltage area is on the right hand side behind a panel. caution there is a capacitor that will bite if your not careful, need to short the circuit between the two connectors with an insulated screw driver it will make a small pop or let it sit for awhile and it will discharge by itself. The magnetron worked for two days then quit, after more research i took it apart again and tightened up all the connections. Worked great on the bench but when i got it back up on the cabinet two dayslater kaput again. so again i take it down and replaced the two cheapest parts in the high voltage system, magnetron thermst fix, and h.v diode. benched tested it this time for 3 days cooking anything that i could think of, worked great. its been one week now afer installtion and it is still working.
Glass microwave turntable shattered while taken out for a cleaning.
PartSelect had the turntable I needed at the best price. Ordering was easy, but best of all, the part was delivered next day. I was able to insert the new turntable plate into the microwave and it was good as new.
when removing the bulb the base broke off and there was an ark took place as I had made a mistake and didn't unplug the unit before working on it , thought with the light switch off it was ok, but still had power in that area . So ALWAYS uplug before making repairs. The whole unit was dead and I checked for power at the plug and it was live. after unpluging I took the main control panel off and discovered a fuse was blown and replaced it along with a new socket and bulb and now it works like new . the fuses are inside small plastic capsuals so I back probed them with continuity light to find the blown fuse . It was quite simple once I found how to get the panels off. Just basic common sence will take care of most appliance problems thanks Louie Scholl
I opened the door to the microwave, I removed any screw visible with a screwdriver that's behind the door itself. Next you need to get inside of the door frame, so you need to slip something thin, like a metal putty knife in between and slowly pry it open, it comes out real easy. Now the screws that hold the handle are visible and easily reached. When your finished replacing the handle, carefully squeeze with your hands the two pieces together again and put back the screws. Thats it.
The vent grill kept falling off because plastic tabs had broken off.
I got my 5 foot step-ladder and Phillips screw driver and removed two screws that were already there. I discarded the two metal clips because new metal clips are already inserted in the vent grill. I lined-up the vent grill on the microwave and screwed in the two screws. It's a perfect fit.
I'm a 62 year old woman, and if I can do it - anyone can. The vent grill arrived two days after I ordered it.
First I removed the two screws from the previous grille. When the part came-no screws were included. Second, the plastic hole that was pre-drilled was not open enough so I had to make it open so the screws would fit. Your part fit just great and we are defintely satisfied. I have had to replace this vent grille 2 times-don't think I will have to do this again. Thank you
