Crosley Dishwasher Door Handle And Latch Assembly with Switch

PartSelect Number PS11748729
Manufacturer Part Number WPW10130695
This door latch (Dishwasher Door Latch Assembly, Door Latch Assembly, Latch Assembly) is a simple on/off mechanism that prohibits the dishwasher from operating when the door is open. It is located on the door of your dishwasher, and is mounted on the inner door panel. The door latch can break from material fatigue. If the door is often slammed or opened quickly, the latch may break prematurely. If the door won't open or the door switches won't activate, you will need to replace this part. This latch measures 5 1/2 inches wide, 4 1/2 inches high, 2 1/2 inches deep, is constructed out of plastic and comes in black. The kit includes the black handle, latch, and 2 switches.

Broken latch handle
The hardest thing was figuring out that you only need to purchase the latch handle because it only comes as a complete latch assembly, why they even list the latch assembly as a separate part in the parts list stupid. (you get the handle and latch already put together and it cost less than the latch assembly without the handle). Anyway all you need to do is disconect the power from the dishwasher (unless you like to live dangerously like me) take your drill with the correct size torx bit and remove all the screws on the inside door pannel (the top center two screws actually hold the latch assembly in place). Disconect the 4 wires from the old part and reconect them to the new part and reinstall all the torx screws being careful not to strip the plastic threads that they screw into if you are using a drill. Whole process takes less than 5 minutes. I am surprised that Maytag used such a flimsy handle assembly in their dishwashers since they are supposed to have the repair men with the most time on their hands. They probably sell just as many handle assemblies as they do dishwashers that have this particular part in it, probably more since you will probably have to change it 2 or 3 times during the life of the unit. Dishwasher wouldn't turn on - Wash Light Blinking
The "Wash" light on my dishwasher began blinking continuously. I tried to reset it by turning off the power for 5 minutes. No change. I tried the "test" sequence per the dishwasher service booklet. No luck. Knowing it was either the control panel (expensive) or the door latch assembly (cheap), I first tested the door latch. With a multi-meter, I was able to determine that the door latch assembly was not functional. This gave the dishwasher a false signal that the door was always open.
To change door latch assembly:
1: Open dishwasher door and remove all the screws holding the front door faceplate on.
2: Remove the front door faceplate as well as the control panel.
3: Locate and remove the (2) torx screws holding the door latch assembly on.
4: Take note of the placement of the four electrical connectors on the old latch assembly. ( I simply removed them one by one from the old assembly and re-connected with the new one to eliminate confusion)
5. Once electrical connectors are completed, simply reverse the process.

Done! Very happy wife afterwards!

Crosley Dishwasher Door Latch with Switches - NO Handle

PartSelect Number PS11751688
Manufacturer Part Number WPW10275768
This door latch, used in dishwashers, is located at the top of the door and locks the door shut when the dishwasher is working. If the door will not close or is damaged, changing the latch could be the solution. For this repair, remove all screws from the inner panel, then lift up the inner door panel and hold the door apart. Next, access the latch and pull wires from the switches. Refer to the manual provided by the manufacturer for further instructions and guidance. Remember to unplug the dishwasher from the power source or shut off the house circuit breaker before beginning this installation project.

Latch handle broke due to Latch Assembly worn
This repair was fairly quick and easy. The parts are much better made than the stock Maytag. The parts from PartSelect came lightening quick! Never used before, always Sears, but will ALWAYS use from now on!
So, first, make super sure all power is disconnected. Then take the torx and remove all the screws on interior front cover - the top center two actually hold the latch assembly and handle. Once all are removed, I propped the cover up and left all wiring connected. I removed the switches connected to the old latch assembly and just removed the new switches from the new latch assembly, and popped the old ones onto the new latch assembly. Now have new switches if the old ones ever wear out.
The latch assembly just pops out from what should be two sets of plastic peg clips molded into the black control panel back. Mine were busted on one side. So I molded some jb weld on the remaining sides to the pegs on the latch assembly and then screwed all back together (the controls on the panel are fine, not spending $85 if I can get away with sticking it...and the upper center two screws do the most of the holding anyway).
Works great again. I really am ultra impressed with the HUGE difference in reinforcement that the new handle has. If Maytag would have built it that way to begin with, should not have broke. Anyway, if you are here just checking to see if you can do and how much parts are, place the order - it is no problem and cheap, and will probably never give up and break again.

No one could open the door, but me.
I took out the four screws that hold the front plate on and removed the latch/switch combo. Two screws hold that on, so i removed them and disconnected tthe wires. Put new assembly in place, reconnected the wires and put it all back together. Case, and door, closed. By the way, getting my part from PartSelect was very easy. Read more...

Crosley Dishwasher Soap Cup Latch Kit
★★★★★

PartSelect Number PS382922
Manufacturer Part Number 676413
This soap cup latch kit, used in a dishwasher, will keep the dispenser cover closed. If your dishwasher will not dispense detergent, there is a door latch failure, the dishes are not cleaning properly, or there is leaking, then this kit can be the solution to your symptoms. The tools required for this replacement are a #15 torx bits, a small blade screwdriver, and slip joint pliers. First locate the soap box and remove the latch on both sides. Next step is to remove the screws in the inner door panel and remove the plastic cover at the back. Remove the old latch assembly and add the new one. Make sure to unplug your dishwasher before beginning this installation project.

Latch broke on dishwasher
Look at the exploded parts diagram, that parts select provides on their website.

You have to take off the nine star pointed screws. So you need a special screwdriver or I had a socket set of them and I used a ratchet to make it easier. I think there are nine of them around the base of the door. Then remove the door and set it on the counter. Flip it over and there is a small plastic cover that has to be removed from the back of it, and it is easily removed by gently pulling on it.

Now comes the difficult part. There is a locking piece on it that holds the latch onto the door by interlocking with a piece on the back side of the door. I took a pair of wire snips and just cut the old interlocking piece off. This way I didn't have to try and slide the two interlocking pieces apart.

When you go to put the new piece on before you interlock them make sure they are put on right. Specifically the latch is pointing the right way to seal the detergent door. Otherwise it can be a pain to separate the interlocking pieces again. (which is why I cut it off the old one).

Then you're done. Just put it all back together.

My door would not close, so I could not turn on the dishwasher.
It was simple, I do have extended warranty from AHS, but they charge me a trip charge of $55 per repair, and then all parts and labor is covered. But when I checked with Parts Select the parts costed me about $10, so I decided to do it myself.

While I was at it, I also bought other parts and updated my dishwasher with some upgrades.

Good place to buy any parts from, they are very helpful, if you do not know your parts. They even had drawings of my dishwasher, and this actually helped me find what kind of other parts I could buy to upgrade my dishwasher.

Parts select is on my favorites list and pass it on to all my friends.

This part is the door actuator for your dishwasher. It is made of black plastic and is approximately 3 inches long and 3 inches wide at its widest point. The door actuator is found in the control panel, and it releases the door latch when you lift the handle. If your current door actuator is cracked or broken, you may not be able to open your dishwasher door, or the door will not close properly. The dishwasher also may not be able to start, and if this is the case, you will need to replace it. This part is sold individually and is an authentic OEM part.

The door handle broke inside so that it was all loose and was difficult to close.
Recoved the screws which secured the handle assembly (approx 8). Removed the old parts and screwed home the new parts and replaced the assembly. Worked perfectly.

The hardest thing for me was to decipher the model number as they use '1s' and 'Is' and you can't tell them apart.

Also the part diagrams should have each part number listed to make it easier. Took me longer to work out what to order than do the repair.

Crosley Dishwasher Door Latch Bolt
★★★★★

5 Reviews
PartSelect Number PS11741367
Manufacturer Part Number WP3380854
This is a door latch bolt for a dishwasher. The door latch bolt fits on the top of the dishwasher door to keep the door closed while the appliance is running. The latch also prevents the dishwasher from running when the door is not closed, so your dishwasher may not run if the door latch bolt has been compromised. This part does not include the latch lever, so consider ordering that part as well if necessary. It is made entirely of plastic, is black in colour, and is approximately 3.5 inches wide. To access the latch bolt, you will need to remove the inner door panel of your dishwasher.

Broken latch on dishwasher prevented operation
Photograph or diagram how the wires connect to the switches before taking out the old assembly. I could have salvaged switches from the old assembly by pulling out the white pins (and avoided buying the new switch kit). There's only one way the pieces go back together, so the wire connections are the only point that required special care and attention. Read more...
