Super simple.
Remove all screws around the stainless metal shroud inside the door. DONT remove the hinge screws.
Torx bit required.

Unplug detergent dispenser and place outer door assembly aside. Dispenser has small clips holding it in, top, bottom and sides I believe. Push these in, dispenser falls out into dishwasher.

latch on dispenser cover broke
Printed door assembly parts list and photo from KitchenAid website. (With the absence of instructions, it was a big help.) Remove door cover. You'll need a star driver bit. Remove the old dispenser. Note how the metal clamp and black cover sheet are positioned. Install the new dispenser. Insure the wiring harness is snapped in place. Replace the door cover. Not difficult; just some patience. One more hint ... be careful when taking the door cover off and you won't have to disconnect any other wiring. Read more...

Dispenser was not dispensing
I first turned the power off to the dishwasher. I then used the star bit to loosen the screws on the sides and top. Note that the 4 top screws are longer than the side screws. Once the screws were loose I used a clamp on each side to hold the door cover in place. Once the screws were removed, I released the clamps, raised the door then lifted the outer cover off. I then peeled the insulation back from the top to expose the dispenser. I used a small socket to remove the screws for the dispenser. I released the plug with a small slotted screw driver. I then exchanged the dispenser with the new unit being careful to correctly reinstall the black cover over the top. I reinstalled the door cover, being careful to tuck the insulation back in place. I then installed the screws using the clamps to hold the door in place during the reinstall. Read more...

The dispenser door was broken, would not close.
First I removed the (8) screws holding the front door panel on. Then I took the door panel off and unpluged the ribbon wiring so the door was free from the dishwasher. I then unpluded the wiring going to the dispensor. Then I removed the (6) screws holding the dispensor into place and then sprung the holders (2) so the dispendor could be removed. I stuck the new dispensor in its place, pushed it in so the (2) metal holders locked into place, then replaced the (6) screws, pluged the wiring into the new dospensor, pluged the ribbion wiring back in and replaced the front door panel and reinstalled the (8) screws that hold the front door into place. And then tested and everything worked fine. Read more...

Broken Latch on Detergent Dispenser
I had a broken latch on my dispenser, so had to replace the entire assembly. This is an easy repair, as the other posts have indicated. You do, however, really need a nutdriver. I undertook this project without a nutdriver and not only did it take ten times longer than it should've, but the dispenser leaked after my first attempt because I could not get the dispenser screwed in good and tight. All worked perfectly once I got the right tool, duh. The repair is done as other posters have indicated: unplug the machine, remove outer panel(s), remove six mounting screws, detach the wires attaching to the assembly, and reattach them to the new piece. **One thing not noted in other reports: there is a white plastic electrical connection on the lower right of the dispenser assembly. Mine had red wires attaching to it. To remove this from the old dispenser, you pull it straight out toward you, like a drawer from a dresser, and slot it into the new dispenser the same way. It would be quite easy to break this piece trying to get it out any other way, so use some caution. Read more...
