This surface burner element switch is for an 8-inch surface burner on an oven, stove, or range. The element switch controls the heat of the surface burner. Disconnect power to your range before completing this repair because you will be working closely with electrical circuits. Remove the screws from back panel and the console, and remove the console to expose the switch. It is recommended to check for overheating or arcing on the wiring harness in case they need to be replaced as well. The harness that connects to the switch features a slip-on terminal for easy installation.

The burner would keep heating after turning off the switch
Start by turning off the power to the range.
It was fairly easy to take the "Control Deck" off the top of the range by removing about 8 screws. I leaned the deck forward without removing any wires except a green ground that was held on by one of the screws.
There are two small screws under the switch knob holding the Infinite Switch to the panel. I removed these and let the switch hang on the wires. To avoid missplacing or crossing the wires... I moved one wire at a time to the new switch, then attached the switch to the panel and put it all back together.
Whole job was done in about 15 minutes

the heating element controls had a few dead spots when setting temperatures
turn off breaker to stove. open oven door and locate two screws that are above the door that hold down the bottom of the front panel. the screws were not common headed but I had some odd ball screw driver heads that fit. the front panel had to be pulled out a little then lifted vertically to unhook it from the lip on the top of the stove. after removing the knob there are two screws hidden under it that hold the control module too the panel. the light on the front panel can be sli to the side to release it from the panel so that you have more slack to unplug and change the wires from the old control module to the new. screw retaining screws back through front panel to new control module. slide light back onto lens in control panel. hang control panel back on stove and secure with the two screws above the front stove door. press new knob on. turn breakers back on Read more...

A surface element switch, also known as a burner/infinite switch, is a device used to control and regulate the heat output of the burners on a stovetop or cooktop. This switch is controlled with a knob on the user interface of the cooktop or stovetop and is adjustable by the user. This burner switch is compatible with various ranges and cooktops and is a genuine OEM part that is sold with all of the necessary hardware to secure it, such as the Philips-head and flat-head screws, brackets, bolts, washers, palnuts (also known as a push-on nut) and terminals. Over time, this switch can wear out or become faulty, leading to heating issues for your stovetop and cooktop, such as not heating, overheating, or staying at the same heat level. Depending on the orientation of your cooktop, you will need to install this switch with or without the bracket and palnut, so reference your user manual for that information when replacing this switch. You will need a screwdriver and set of pliers during the replacement and installation process, and simply need to follow the instruction manual included with this switch to correctly replace and rewire it.

Old infinity switch on electric rangetop did not work correctly
Lifted range top, disconnected and labled wires from old switch, removed old switch, replaced wires on new switch, installed new switch.
NOTE: Local appliance store informed me that the electric cooktop was too old and that a replacement switch was not available and wanted to sell me a new cooktop for $795!
I found the switch on PartSelect and repaired the cooktop. Total cost... UNDER THIRTY DOLLARS!!

Heard a loud “pop” and cook surface on indicator remained illuminated even with burners off.
Slide range out to access rear. Turn off circuit breaker and/or unplug stove. I did both. Removed four screws on top section on rear of range and CAREFULLY slid out the back plate. Disconnected all wires and plugs from old switch noting locations. Placed wires and plugs on new switch. Removed knob and then two screws from front of old switch. Carefully placed new switch in proper location and screwed in the two front screws. CAREFULLY place the back plate in proper location and reattach with four screws. Clean floor and cabinet sides while range is out. Plug in range and/or turn on circuit breaker. Test switch operation and verify Cooking Surface On light only lights when switches are on. Slide range back into place. Read more...
