Microwave Oven Combo Secondary Door Switch
★★★★★
★★★★★
45 Reviews
PartSelect Number PS237421
Manufacturer Part Number WB24X829
The secondary door switch is a simple on/off mechanism that stops the microwave from operating when the door is open (normally opened). The switch monitors the door latch position, and communicates whether the door is open or closed to the electrical control board. This door switch is approximately 1 inch long, and has 2 metal prongs called terminals that extend out of its body. Common symptoms related to a faulty secondary door switch include: microwave will not turn/shut off, or the microwave will not heat properly. NOTE: Before you begin this repair, first make sure your microwave is unplugged, and that your capacitor is discharged. A capacitor stores large amounts of electricity even when your microwave is unplugged.

light worked, timer and control pad worked, but no turntable, no heat, no noises of any sort, just didn't start up
Noted on partselect.com that someone else with this problem, found it to be secondary door switch. There are three door switches in this model, but online info noted that one of the three might feel "soft" (in my case, one switch clicked in a rather "jiggly" way, the other two were strong decisive clicks.) To access the door switches on this model was the only difficult part. First use a torx bit to remove the two torx screws below the latches inside the microwave. This frees the latching part inside, that holds the door switches, which you will remove after you take off the control panel. The top grill has to come off before you can remove the door panel. Remove the screws above the grill, on the microwave top cover, The grill on this model is covered with a panel that moves out when it vents. After removing the two top screws, the covered grill vent slides left to remove. Be careful, as the sliding tabs are plastic. Wiggle and jiggle it, to slip it off. Below the removed grill, is a small metal grill with one screw in lower center. Remove that screw, and wiggle that out. You'll then see the one screw that holds on the control panel. Remove this screw, and lift the control panel up to remove. Again, go slowly and gently, as the bottom tabs holding the control panel in, are also plastic and easily broken. Lay the control panel on something, (I used the coffee maker) and pull out the wire bundles tucked on the left, that are attached to the latching panel. Wiggle the latching panel gently to lift it up off of it's plastic tabs and pull it out towards you, so you can see the three door switches. Each switch (part number WB24X829) has a little black switch on it. Feel each switch with either your finger, or a screwdriver to see which one doesn't "click" strongly. The weak one is the one you will replace. The door switches are fitted into a tab, and plugged into their wires. Remove the defective switch, pull out the wires, and replace it with the new switch, plugging back the wires, and slipping it back into it's plastic tabs. Then put everything back together in reverse order. The entire job took me fifteen minutes EXCEPT for figuring out how to slide off the upper grill, which I have told you. A repairman would have cost $150, the part was $18. AND, there's a good chance, the other two switches will get "used up" in the next year or so as well, so I'll be ready next time. Thank you, Partselect, why work all day, to make money, only to give it to somebody else, for fifteen minutes of work. All I needed was the knowledge. Read more...

Microwave Oven Combo Range Infinite Burner Switch - 8 Inch

This infinite switch is for 8-inch range burners. When an element is unable to produce any heat on a modern oven, the problem may lie with the infinite switch. This switch is responsible for sending power to the surface elements. Check the element and terminal block to ensure they are working properly. If they are in working order, check the infinite switch at the control panel for any wires that have overheated, or broken terminals to or from the infinite switch. If the infinite switch is damaged or malfunctioning, it will need to be replaced. Remember to unplug your range before beginning this repair.

Unplug your microwave before attempting this repair. You will need to remove the grill, which is held into place by two screws at the top of the grill (open your microwave door before doing this). Remove the grill. Remove the screw on the left holding the control panel in place. Loosen the screw behind the panel. You should now be able to lift the panel up and pull forward to detach. You will find the door switch by removing the screws to detach the switch assembly. Press on the release tab to remove the middle switch. Disconnect the wire connector to release the old switch. The door switch is normally closed.

GE Microwave turns on when door is opened
I saw a similar problem description at partselect.com and was confident to take the challenge to repair it myself. (Thanks to partselect.com). When I opened the microwave cover I found 3 similar switches. 2 of them works the same way and the other in reverse direction. Image diagram provided to buy parts is helpful to identify the switch.
Steps:
Remove the built-in microwave from the wall and keep it in an open space.
Remove the microwave screws and take the cover out.
Remove the 2 screws(inside) from the plastic panel where switches are snapped in
Gently remove the faulty switch and replace with the new one.
(In my case the topmost secondary door switch was broken)

Microwave Oven Combo Surface Element Switch

PartSelect Number PS12070192

A surface element switch, also known as a burner/infinite switch, is a device used to control and regulate the heat output of the burners on a stovetop or cooktop. This switch is controlled with a knob on the user interface of the cooktop or stovetop and is adjustable by the user. This burner switch is compatible with various ranges and cooktops and is a genuine OEM part that is sold with all of the necessary hardware to secure it, such as the Philips-head and flat-head screws, brackets, bolts, washers, palnuts (also known as a push-on nut) and terminals. Over time, this switch can wear out or become faulty, leading to heating issues for your stovetop and cooktop, such as not heating, overheating, or staying at the same heat level. Depending on the orientation of your cooktop, you will need to install this switch with or without the bracket and palnut, so reference your user manual for that information when replacing this switch. You will need a screwdriver and set of pliers during the replacement and installation process, and simply need to follow the instruction manual included with this switch to correctly replace and rewire it.

The display kept asking me to close the door, even though the door was closed. The interior light stayed on.
I used a Google search to show how to access the area behind the front panel. There was a folded paper copy with a schematic and wiring diagram in that space. Then I used a multi-meter to determine which of the THREE micro-switches was causing the problem. I called your help line and ordered a replacement switch. The switch was delayed in transit so your agent credited me with the cost of shipping.

When the part arrived, it had three terminals instead of two as shown in the on-line picture but that did not cause any difficulty in using it. It took about 20 minutes to remove and replace the old switch.

All seems to be working well now.

Finding which of the THREE switches was the problem was the most difficult part of the repair. All three "clicked" but the defective one did not click as easily. It needed to be depressed more than the door latch can would provide. Old age?

This microwave door switch provides power to the various components in the microwave when the door is in a closed position, and interrupts power when the door is open. This door switch is approximately 1 1/2 inches long, and has 2 metal prongs called terminals that extend from its body. If your microwave will not turn or heat properly, there could be an issue with the door switch. You can check the switch for continuity using a multi-meter. With the actuator button depressed, you should see continuity between these terminals. If there is no continuity the switch will need to be replaced. NOTE: Before you begin this repair, first make sure your microwave is unplugged, and that your capacitor is discharged. A capacitor stores large amounts of electricity even when your microwave is unplugged.

Broken door micro switch. (unit does not start heating)
Unplug the unit before servicing. Need phillips screwdriver. Open door. Use step ladder to access and remove 2 small screws from top of the room air diffuser at top of unit. Slide diffuser slightly to the left to align the diffuser's plastic tab on the left side to rotate toward you. (The wires for the front control panel are at the far left side of this difuser, but difuser is slotted for easy removal). Once the difuser is removed you will see 1 screw at the top that secures the pannel cover on the left side of the unit. Remove screw and slide this panel slightly up and out. This exposes the plastic frame that holds the upper and lower door switches. To locate the door switches and observe how they work, close and open the door and watch the door (bayonets) open and close the micro switches. Do the (red) buttons on top of the switches move up and down when the door bayonets push and release? If the buttons do not "pop" up when opened the switch is defective. The switch frame is secured with 2 screws. Remove screws and rotate the unit out for easy access to the micro switch(s). The internal (spring?) on my unit that is suposed to allow the red (visible) button on top of the switch to "pop" up when the door is opened was broken. Carefully pry the switch outward while being careful to lift the plastic holder-piece that holds the switch in place. Be careful, there is a small pin on the frame, so rotate the switch OUT toward you while lifting (carefully) the plastic holder-piece (you will see it on top of the switch). You can use an ohm meter to test the continuity of the switches. But if the buttons don't "pop" they are defective. Replace switch and reassemble. Read more...

The relay switch may also be known as the door micro switch and is a part for your microwave. The function of this part is to monitor the door latch and communicate whether the door latch is open or closed to the electronic control board. Before making this repair, you will want to make sure to unplug your microwave and discharge the capacitor. Your microwave capacitor is able to store electricity in large quantities even after it has been unplugged. The most common reason for replacing your relay switch is if the microwave will not turn on but your timer still runs..

I first removed the top plate above the microwave door (3 screws), then I removed the plate containing the buttons and clock. The microwave has 3 relay switches and they are in a little holder. No control of right front burner (dual burner)
The burner would work but you could not regulate the heat. I ordered and replaced the control switch for that burner. The part was like for like and reasonably priced compared to other websites and dealer. The picture showed that it was identical. I ordered one day and it was here the next. I had drawn a diagram of where the wires went on the old switch so it was very easy to replace. Probably took me 15 minutes or so. Works perfectly and by buying from this website it saved me a few bucks. Read more...
