This dryer heating element produces heat to dry clothes and is located in the rear of a dryer. If the heater element is burned, the dryer does not heat or over heats, or clothes are taking too long to dry, replacing this part could solve your problem. The tools needed for this repair project are a Phillips screwdriver, putty knife, and needle nose pliers. To repair, first remove the main top of the dryer and ground strap at the rear. Disconnect the two wire harnesses and remove the screws that hold the front panel to the cabinet, in order to pull out the front panel. Now that you have access to the inside of the dryer, refer to the manual for further installation instructions and detailed guidance. Remember to unplug your appliance from the power source before beginning this repair project.

This part is a heater, but may also be known as a heating element, and it is meant for your dryer. This is where the heat is generated during your machine cycle in order to properly dry your clothing. This model is a 5500 watt, and has three coils. If your heater is broken, that usually means there is a break in the coil element. If you are having trouble drying your clothes, you may want to check for a thermal cut out or a blown thermal fuse. For this repair you will need a number two square bit, a Phillips screwdriver, and a flat-head screwdriver.

Dryer wasn't heating properly, drying took too long.
Removed back of dryer with electric nut driver. Lots of screws. Removed old heating element to better access wires and thermostats. Removed baffle at end and transferred to new heater element. Transferred thermostats to new element, reconnected wiring in correct order. Installed new heater element in correct position using tab to locate. Replaced back of dryer. Reconnected dryer vent. Toughest part was squeezing out of space after reconnecting dryer vent. Unfortunately, too short for my weight. Read more...

Dryer would not heat
First..kudos to PartSelect for their fantastic support! Great work folks.

While greasing the bearing in the back of the drum, I found my heating coil was broken. Steps to replace:

1) Unplug the unit
2) Remove the top panel. Note, do not remove the center front screw that does not go into the door.
3) Remove front outer panel
4) Remove interior front panel
5) Remove front control panel 6 screws, pushing downward the panel and disconnecting connection to door.
6) Remove door by removing the screws on the top and pull door straight off. (I left the air duct attached to the door)
7) Remove the back access panel to the motor
8) Release the belt from the idler pulley and remove the belt.
9) I removed the three screws in the center of the drum as I found it difficult to remove the drum from the bearing. Remove the drum.
10) disconnect the coil terminals by first bending the tabs outward to allow you to be able to pull them off the block
11) remove the old coil
12) carefully stretch the new coil so that it measures 48 inches (no more)
13) Plug new coil into terminals and bend tabs to lock in place.
14) Divide heater coil in half and install coil onto center support on the opposite side from where it connects to the block/back wall of dryer
15) Install remaining coils onto supports.
16) reinstall all parts in reverse order.

This element is strung with a coiled wire made of a nickel and a chrome alloy. This wire receives, but resists, a controlled electric current and as a result, the wire heats up. The heat produced is used to dry the clothes in your dryer.
