No power to dishwasher. Confirmed that outlet had power coming out.
Turn off circuit breaker. Turn off water at shutoff valve usually located under sink. Disconnect water line from dishwasher. Disconnect wires for the power feed from cord, Marked corresponding wires upon removal for re-installation. Remove 2 mounting screws that secure dishwasher to counter. Slide dishwasher out from counter and turn upside down. Use a blanket to prevent scratching of surfaces. Locate component on the back portion of the dishwasher. Unplug 2 wiring harnesses. My part was held on by 2 phillip screws. One in front, the other in the back along the leg bracket support. Once removed, reverse the order of removal. The i a You Tube video you can locate fr this removal. They said that you needed to release a clip to get the part out. Mine had a screw holding it on the back side. This difference cause about an extra 1/2 hour before I was able to figure out that there was NO clip that was being shown on the video. After that, The replacement went smoothly and we were having the dishes washed later that day. Read more...

Washer would fill and stop, would not agitate; advance the cycles
First I went to the Whirlpool site and downloaded the illustrated parts list for this model (a PDF file).

Seeing the part number, I then ordered the part from PartSelect.com.

While waiting for the part I tried to research how to remove the timer knob, but none of the online help I found was correct- the knob does not unscrew, but is held in place by a black plastic "keeper" on the back of the timer. The removal instructions are printed on the timer.

When the timer arrived I unscrewed the 2 screws at the back and edge of the console panel. Then the panel lifts up and out, exposing the timer. I released the knob, then removed a small screw beneath the knob that holds the timer.

Then I unplugged the wiring harness from the timer and removed it. I then reversed these procedures and installed the new timer.

As it turned out, the problem was not with the timer at all, but rather a defective lid switch, which is also located under the console panel.

Once I replaced the lid switch (very easy), the washer worked perfectly again.

Despite my imperfect initial diagnosis, a very satisfying experience.

Thanks for the great service.

Rick

washer not cycling or working on all cycles.
On my model You have to first lift the control panel in order to remove timer knob.I removed control panel by prying on the ends of panel one at a time with putty knife and rag to keep from scratching washer. I then use needle nose pliers to pull plastic under side of knob while pulling on knob which is the trickiest part of the job as knob will not come of til it is pulled from underside with needle nose pliers to release it then its easy from that point to disconnect wires and slide timer to the left to unlock it and in stall new timer. You have to take your time doing the repair and it will work out better for you. After replacing timer machine works on all cycles and completes entire cycle.
