This door interlock switch is for microwaves. Door interlock switch prevents the microwave from starting when the door is open. Because the microwave shielding and interlock switches must be properly tested following the door interlock switch replacement, a service technician should install this part.

Door switch inconsistent operation for Open/Close sensing.
Ordered top & bottom micro-switches and mounting plate parts. Internet reviews could not find specifics if the issue was due to a top/bottom or combination of micro-switch or mounting plate failure. Pulled the plug. Removed the top vent assembly cover held in by 2 Phillips screws inside the vent. Removed the control panel held in by 1 Phillip screw at the top vent assembly area. Lifted control panel upward to release the catch and moved it off to the side - didn't disconnect any leads. Used a Torx bit to remove the door switch mounting plates at the front and pulled the plates through the opening from the control panel. Documented the wire color code connections, the top plate uses 2 micro's with one using both the closed & open contact. Installed the respective micros on the mounting plates and worked backwards with the wiring and removal steps. Once completed, the open/close sensing has worked every time. Read more...

Inner door glass EXPLODED while preheating!
Easy peasy. After using the shop vac to remove the glass fragments, 8 Phillips head screws were all that I had to remove. The schematic on this website was close enough, but I recommend taking pictures as you disassemble.

Caveat: I took it apart several days before I got the part, so I had plenty of time for my forgetter to work.

Door frame was crack.
Purchase a new door frame it arrived and I unwrapped it. I remove 3 srews from the end of the door and pryed up and the old frame came off. Be careful to watch the glass does not fall out. Remove handle by removing 2 screws and put on new door frame. Remove glass and put in new door frame. Then I carefully pressed it back on the inside door frame and replaced screws. Complete, very easy.

Exterior Door Panel Cracked
Take the three cross point screws loose that attach the panel to the door. (adjacent to handle) At the top of the door place a putty knife between the panel and door then gently pry up....simultaneously place another putty knife about four inches going towards the center of the door and also pry up. This will unlatch (loosen up) enough of the panel to allow you to grasp the panel in the area of the first putty knife and pull up on the panel with your left hand while simultaneously applying slight upward pressure with the putty knife ...the panel can then be pulled off completely. (Once the top is loosened) Remove the two screws that hold the handle in place. Install the handle on the new panel then press the new panel onto the door frame by placing it onto the frame then apply pressure on all four sides until you hear a slight "snap" Read more...

Microwave door frame melted when candle placed under it
First, I shut off the power to the microwave. Next, I removed the three screws located on the interior edge of the door.

I ran into some difficulty from there. I couldn't figure out how to get the frame off, because there were not any other screws or visible methods of attachment, and the thing wouldn't just be pulled off the door. I didn't want to just yank ithe frame off the door, and have something break.

II looked online for help. I looked in the Whirlpool owner's manual for instructions on removing the frame. (All that for nothing.) So, I called Whirlpool. They told me "only a technician can do that."

I am not sure as to the legitimacy of that statement.. I did not find any technological or safety issue that made me feel this was "so well built", I would never figure it out. In fact, I was suprised at how cheaply they are put together.

I decided to put thin wedges between the door frame and the door. discovered the frame is held on to the door with small "ledges" which can "pop off the door, if jimmied.

I started where the screws had been removed, and I wedged a butter knife blade in there. Then I just put old butter knives (no real cutting edge) and plastic knives all the way around the door, between the frame, and the door itself....and then I pulled firmly, and pop! It came off relatively easy. Well, heads up. Just be sure to put down a large towel or something to cushion the fall of the knives, and to reduce the noise when they fall...

I had a delay inthe repair when I found the glass to the window in the door was stuck to the frame with silicone caulk. But I just peeled off the caulk, and popped the glass out.

Once I got that on in the new frame, the same way I found it on the old frame, I put on the caulking the same way I found it. I let it dry overnight.

The next day, after cleaning the interior of the glass, I popped the frame back on the microwave door, by pushing the little ledges over their "catches"...and viola! I saved myself a very expensive "technician" visit.

Thank you, PartSelect!

Dirty/Rusty Window
The metal screen in the door of my microwave was rusting and making my "window" look nasty. I was able to take apart the door w/o removing the microwave, peel off the old plastic seal and clean the nasty parts of the glass door. The rust still remains and may be a future problem. But for now, the cleaning was what the door needed and applying the new film was a simple as putting stickers on a gift bag. Read more...
