This part is found in your washer. The pin on the lid pushes on the lever of the lid switch to tell the machine that the lid is closed. This part includes the green grounding wire. If your machine is having trouble starting, is not agitating, spinning, or is not draining properly, this could be because the lid switch has broken. You will need a 5/16-inch nut driver for this repair. The package will contain one lid switch. You will need to access the back of the washer, and remove the two Phillips screws that hold the top back panel in place. Slide the panel forward to release. Use your nut driver to loosen the screw that holds the ground wire in place. Lift the lid of the washer to release the old lid switch.

Washer wouldn't run

I removed the two screws on the back of the control panel. The control panel then flips back. The switch is on the left side. To remove the switch, I first detached the wire to the control panel and unscrewed the grounding wire. The new switch drops right in. I had a little trouble getting it in until I realized the washer lid had to be open. A little awkward but once it's in you can shut the lid and then I reattached the wire from the control panel and screwed in the grounding wire. This part is located behind the control panel. It helps determine the level of water in the washer. As the water fills the hose, while tub is filling, it will push the air against a diaphragm inside the switch. More water that enters the tub, more pressure is applied against the switch.

Washer was not filling with water to proper level (was filling some, not enough)

Ordered part PS3408149 from partselect.com. Lifted Washer control panel with putty knife. Removed hinges (regular screwdriver, used as a crowbar rather than screwdriver) holding control panel to washer body. Moved washer body panel out of the way, and reviewed level sensor/level selector switch. Take handle off front of selector switch. Twist selector switch off from inside (90 degree turn till square inset lines up withsquare hole, then it will come out). Insert new selector switch. Remove old tubing. Fish new tubing through where old tubing was. Cut off extra tubing, then push tubing onto selector switch and tub basin (where old tubing was). Put washer back together. Done. Worked perfectly. Water level switch broke off in the knob.

Unplugged the washer from the power. Turned off the hot and cold water. Took two screws off the back and raised up the upper cover. Took the power cables and water tube loose from the water level switch. Removed the switch. Put the new switch in. Removed two metal clips at the top of the washer and leaned the washer body forward. Replaced the tube with a new one. Put the washer body back in place and put the clips back in. Attached the tube to the new switch along with the power cables. Let the top cover back down and put in the two screws. Slid the new knob in place. Plugged up the washer to the power. Turned the hot and cold water back on. And commenced washing laundry. Magic Chef Washer Lid Switch Kit

The lid switch kit is an assembly for replacing your washer lid switch. The function of this part is to detect if your washer lid is open or closed. If it detects that it is open it will prevent the washer from rotating and agitating until it is closed. This kit includes the bracket, actuator, switch, screws, and wire harness. To complete this installation, you will need a number two Phillips screwdriver, and a 5/16 nut driver. Before beginning this repair, make sure the power supply to your washer is disconnected. Intermittent problem with lid switch, no high speed spin/pump out

Disconnect power, unsnap and raise machine top cover w/lid, remove old switch - two screws under lid, taking care to not drop loose actuator lever into machine. Remove control panel back and disconnect switch wire connector. Intall new switch, taking care to not drop loose actuator lever into machine, connect switch wires inside control panel. Water would overflow from the top of the machine

The repair was very easy. Remove a few screws, switch wiring one at a time so I put them in the correct position and replace. The hose replacement was easy at the swicth but a little more difficult at the lower end of the tub due to limited space. Overall an easy job and now it works fine! Read more...

Washer not completing rinse cycle. Broken centrifugal switch

I disconnect power from wall outlets. Turn off pipes and remove water hoses from machine. Clear machine making room to operate.
I removed two Phillip head screws from behind the console, press down lightly on console then flipped it back. Disconnect the lid switch by releasing the plastic clip. Used a screwdriver to release the 2 metal holding clips (one on each side on top of machine. Ease the case up slightly then pull back gaining access to the centrifugal switch which is mounted to the motor with one Phillip head screw. One end of switch was broken and disconnected. Motor was not keeping up. Discharged capacitor by grounding the terminals with an insulated plyers. Lift the clip on the broken switch then pull the connector off. With new switch in hand, remove each of the 5 wires from the old switch by using a needle nose pliers one by one and connect them to the new switch making sure each one is properly secured in please. Connect the new switch to the motor using the single screw. Secure the connector to switch. Replace case by tilting back about 45 degrees, slide under front frame of machine all the way then down inplace. Use the two metal clips to secure frame to rear panel. Reconnect lid switch. Return machine to usual spot, reconnect water hoses, turn pipes on make sure there are no leaks. Plug back into wall outlet. Washer was tried and all cycles were completed. Read more...
